SCRAPBOOK
Oil spill required booms to be laid throughout the west side following the container ship collision with the delta span of the bay bridge on 11/7/07 and the subsequent oil spill. Pier 39 marina was the first marina to deploy container boom across the entrance due to hands on information relayed by the Blue and Gold ferry staff who have an engineering shop close to the bay bridge.
This, coupled with the marina crews quick action and excellent emergency spill response, helped forstall a major impact on our facility. Photos show marine oil response teams hired by the representatives of the container ship company, deploying absorbent booms throughout the marina's west side, on Saturday November 10th.
We are happy to report the water at this time in and around PIER 39 marina is clear of sheen and lumps of oil. What we don't know, as of yet, are the long term effects on the fish and marine life.
